'Ground Zero Mosque' in New York City
Only 20% of Americans support building of an Islamic mosque near the Ground Zero site of the World Trade Center in New York City. 54% oppose the planned building of a mosque near where Muslim terrorists brought down the skyscrapers by crashing commercial airliners into them on September 11, 2001, killing almost 3,000 Americans.
54% of Americans oppose building the mosque; 20% support.
52% of New Yorkers oppose building the mosque; 31% support.
64% of Americans think it's wrong to build the mosque; 30% think it's appropriate.
But President Barack Obama weighed in forcefully on the mosque near ground zero, saying a nation built on religious freedom must allow it.
The American people may not agree with Obama on this 'Ground Zero Mosque' issue, but the terrorist group Hamas certainly does!
Arizona SB-1070 Immigration Law
The public broadly supports a new Arizona law aimed at dealing with illegal immigration and the law's provisions giving police increased powers to stop and detain people who are suspected of being in the country illegally.
73% say they approve of requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them. 23% disapprove.
67% approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify their legal status. 29% disapprove.
62% approve of allowing police to question people they think may be in the country illegally. 35% disapprove.
After being asked about the law's provisions, 59% say that, considering everything, they approve of Arizona's new illegal immigration law, while 32% disapprove.
But the Obama Administration went ahead and sued Arizona over SB-1070.
56% of Americans oppose the Obama lawsuit. 28% agree with the administration's suit.
61% of Americans like the idea of their state passing a bill similar to Arizona's.
The American public is increasingly skeptical of the health care reform bill signed into law. More Americans now disapprove of the legislation, and many expect their costs to rise and the quality of their care to worsen; few expect the reforms to help them.
53% of Americans disapprove of ObamaCare, while 32% approve (CBS poll).
59% of Americans oppose ObamaCare. 39% favor it (CNN poll).
55% of U.S. likely voters favor repeal of the health care bill. 38% oppose.
Bailouts of Financial Industry and Automakers
Even in retrospect, most U.S. voters still don't approve of the government bailouts of the financial industry and troubled automakers General Motors and Chrysler.
56% of voters think it was a bad idea for the government to provide bailout funding for banks and other financial institutions. 30% hold the opposite view and believe it was a good idea.
When it comes to the bailout funding for GM and Chrysler, 58% don't like the idea of the auto bailouts, while 32% do.
More than 6 in 10 Americans are sympathetic with Israel regarding the Middle East situation.
63% of Americans say their sympathies in the Middle East situation lie more with the Israelis than with the Palestinians. 15% side more with the Palestinians.
But President Barack Obama is so upset with Israel's Prime Minister, he sent his Secretary of State scolding him and snubbed him during a visit to the White House.
